Xbox has finally entered the virtual reality market, albeit in an unconventional way. Microsoft's gaming branch has partnered with Meta to release the limited edition Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition. It is essentially an Xbox-themed Meta Quest 3S VR headset that comes preloaded with the Xbox app for cloud gaming and can pair with Xbox controllers (as well as VR controllers).

Available as of today for $399.99 USD, this bundle includes:
  • Custom 128GB Meta Quest 3S in Xbox Carbon Black and Velocity Green
  • Matching Touch Plus controllers and a limited-edition Xbox Wireless Controller
  • Meta Quest Elite Strap
  • 3 months of Meta Horizon+
  • 3 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate
The Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition is available now at meta.com, Best Buy (USA), Argos (UK), and EE (UK), in limited quantities.

What si the deal with these things
I know nothing about meta quest but I just got one free form Verizion
All i know is that you can use it with a PC too and not jus stand alone which is why I got it plus astound went way up and it was tie to switch and I figured this was better than waiting to see if they had a switch 2 offer for new subscrbers
so is the regular 3s compatible with xbox or only this one works with it?
is the extra $100- $130 just for the special color and the bundled service or is there a different FW on this than makes it work with xbox?
Don't these run some form of Android?
I wonder if we can install revanced and micro g to t?

Is this a good device to get into VR with? my PC has a 3080ti and 12th gen i7.

Also read something about geing $30 credit for invites or something but I really have no time to research this right now.
anyone want to give me a QRD?

It's Android and Totally hackable! My son has the 3 and loves it. Look into rookie sideloader 👍

Basically it's for
- the special color ($0)
- the three months of GamePass (around $30)
- the elite head strap ($80 from Meta, with less expensive alternatives going for $30)
- the bundled Xbox controller ($60)

Other than that it is a standard Quest 3S.

It's a bummer that it doesn't come bundled with a pair of touch controllers. As it is it's just a bulky headsets that you can use to stream your games. You'd be pretty restricted when it comes to native VR games due to the missing touch controllers.

(Edit: I take that back. Didn't know they are actually bundled with touch controllers. Must be some kind of Mandela effect on my part, because I was under the impression that the Quest 3S is usually sold without them...)

And even with the less bulky Quest 3 watching videos and playing non-VR games is not that good of an experience. I'd prefer the XREAL One, because it puts way less weight on my head (though it covers a significantly smaller field of view).

Boring. VR forza, VR halo, VR whatever xbox owns exlusive titles, that would be meat. Not just black quest 3

Sorry, but having used this in the past I'd never call a modern headset bulky:

No joke, it was so heavy that as a 10 year old I couldn't lift it, I didn't even get a chance to experience motion sickness!

if nintendo keeps down this path of anti consumer behavior without being "taught a lesson" the switch 2 i bought might get sold (and my steam deck to get enough) to buy the xbox edition asus rog (since it's a computer basicly a little more freedom would be allowed such as upgrading, overclocking etc) and might later buy this too

IMO this could potentially be the start of making VR more appealing to the masses.
The price of VR is still a hurdle they're struggling to overcome but beyond that, I always felt that if you're paying so much for a VR device, then at the very least it should be able to function as a standalone headset rather than making you rely on tethering it to yet another expensive piece of technology as well.

Microsoft could be onto something here with this Xbox branded Meta Quest if at some point down the line it could also be tethered to a Series X console and used in the same manner as how a PSVR2 works with a PS5.

I miss Halolens. Anyway, as someone else said, no motion controls, so it doesn't really stand out. It feels too much like the Steam Machines.

So it's a color scheme...

It does come with the touch controllers though? They show them in the promotion image.

I swear I once read somewhere that Quest 3S headsets came without them by default... But you're absolutely right. My bad. Apparently, this impression stemmed from speculative articles that were published at a time prior to the formal announcement of the Quest 3S.
