Hello
so I have Menuhax installed which boots to RXtools/HBM/REInand
i want to install a theme, but when i originally downgraded my n3ds i changed the theme and wasnt able to boot the 3ds, so i upgraded, and downgraded again (this was b4 10.5 when the downgrader was 1st released) I guess after some research it was because of nand linking.
so to avoid that again, 1st, is their a way to tell if the nand is unlinked?
if my nand is still linked does anyone have a link to properly unlink them after everything is already setup with CFW.
Ive been scared to even open the theme changer since i was able to get everything working but i really want to add a zelda theme, and im not really sure what the purpose of unlinking the nand is for, but i believe thats what broke my CFW the 1st time around.
Thanks

so im thinking i still might be linked
a game i have installed said it needed an update, so i went to update it, and it showed my NNID and gave me an error code 022-2634
any ideas?

You can:

- Run homebrew on sysnand and use emunand9 to make a backup of your emunand
- Copy all your SD card to your PC
- Boot your emunand and format it through system settings, etc
- Once done, create a new emunand
- On this new emunand, go to system settings and link your NNID on NNID settings
- Once relinked, reboot again on sysnand and run emunand9 one more time
- Use the option emunand9 gives you to reinject your emunand backup to your new emunand
- Paste back your SD card backup from your PC in your SD card

Format by using TinyFormat is more convenient, since you don't have to re-link a NNID

ok so its just my emunand thats an issue, so by doing that, i should retain all my CIA's and my saves files correct?
when i make a new emunand will i have 2 and need to delete the old one?

If you follow the steps correctly, you'll keep all your cias and saves.
You'll have only one emunand in the end.

The error you mentioned occurs when you format your sysnand to unlink your nands.
There, you're saying to nintendo servers that you are not using your NNID anymore until you relink your NNID again...
so the problem is when you run your emunand, your emunand has your NNID linked, but nintendo servers believes that that NNID is not being used at the moment.
That's why you need to make a new emunand, relink your NNID telling nintendo "hey, i'm using this NNID again", and once done, reinject your emunand and sd backups just like you had before all this steps.

There shouldn't be any problems if you follow the steps.

PD: you could use tinyformat instead of the normal method, but I've never used that app before. Maybe someone can help you replacing some steps and using tinyformat if you find it a little difficult to follow/understand

awesome working on it now, making a backup up emunand now.
also this will keep my FBI installer on the emunand, i one time i did something and i missed a step and had to upgrade downgrade and redo everything, again
to get it all working i actually went through the downgrade process 3 times LoL

BTW thanks for clearing the NNID issue up, makes sense now

Yes, just be sure you backup your emunand with emunand9 (an option called dump emunand to emunand.bin or something like that) and all your SD card before formatting

yes it was dump emunand to emunand.bin
backup up my entire SD now, ill report back when im done
thanks for the help you guys rock

Well, once you had formated your emunand, you don't need to make a new one, you can just use that empty one to relink your NNID and then follow the rest of the steps.
I don't know If I've explained correctly

sweet i linked on emunand, going to restore my emunand backup now, then copy my sd card backup back to the sd card.
once that is complete, i will then be able to install a theme cia and change it?

Yes, once done you should be able to access the eshop too.

ok kool, i put the sd card in my pc and it didnt delete any of my games or anything on the sd card, although nothing showed up on the home screen, hopefully after the emunand restore it does

i didnt create a new emunand just used the same one after formatting

You have to both restore your old emunand with emunand9 and paste back your sd backup

ok emunand restoring now, then i will copy back and overwirte whats on the SD card or should i delete the files on the sd card then copy, or it doesnt mater?

I think it's better to delete all the SD card and paste back your backup instead of replacing them

Everything worked just as you said, I did not lose anything
I was able to update my games and login with my NNID
I still have FBI
I FINALLY have my Zelda theme installed.
Man I owe you big time, Thanks a million, I'm glad I asked here first b4 trying to change the theme because I know I would have screwed things up again and it would have been a lot more to fix and get everything working correctly.
TinyFormat worked fine and was super quick, and I didnt have to create a new emunand after the format and redoing everything I was back on track
