Like many others, the Mega Man series have caused us near completely broken L/R buttons. And I hear it's because of dust.

Why does the L and R buttons start working for a bit after you blow it? If it's dust, does that mean if I take off the cover, i can literally remove the dust and just put it back on? Since if it's dust, your L and R not working means that the dust just landed?

Does blowing actually work? It hasn't for me, the R button gets stuck and I'm sure it's because of wear and tear or maybe the spring.

I blew under the L and R buttons and it works - but only for a while.

Whats Nintendo's problem with dust. My Wii can't read Dual-Layer discs anymore (Thank god for USB loading!).

Perhaps I have a different issue then. @PyroSpark: You do know that you can change the control settings in game though right?

You can also verify if it's only the triggers who are broken. In this case, maybe a replacement can fix the problem.

So has my theory been tried before? (on the buttons that work by blowing?)

Edit: Yes, I know that. But a button's a button.

Technically, yes, but it's way easier to give it a good blow.

True but considering an hourly rate for that, a standard licensed repair would probably be cheaper.

Since I already had this problem... Twice...
I need to put something to stuck the button...

Somebody should release a guide on how to open a DS (Fat, Lite and/or I) and show how to clean or fix the buttons since a lot of people can't afford all the trouble to send it to nintendo pay 50+ bucks etc etc

For the GBA, SP, and original DS, it's easy (if you have a soldering iron). Just desolder the existing buttons and solder some slain ole tact switches in there and cut off the extra two legs.
