Another member of 8thalga and I are making replacement analog stick covers for our PSP's. (Mine broke, and he just wants to replace his) I'm posting here to ask for a few suggestions:

What material do you think we should use? It's just the cover itself - so it's the top and the bottom. There aren't any wires or anything involved, so keep that in mind when suggesting. He has a glass chess set, and we were thinking of using the bottoms of some of the pieces to make them. Another idea of mine was to use a hard rubber base, but it'd be pretty hard to find.

We can't use anything that'll crumble, so clay is out, unless it's hardened. What do you guys think?

Would have to say that glass is a terrible idea. Its heavy and liable to shattering.

Rubber is the best option to me. It'll add grip to the stick and should be (relatively) easy to carve out a slot for the analog nub to go into.

I'm not sure if you've ever seen/touched a Monaco smoked glass chess piece, but it's partly hollow and it's a very light material, and there's no way it can shatter unless it's dropped from a large height (and even then, it would most likely break into larger chunks, it wouldn't shatter.) You're thinking of window/decorative or building glass - this is craft glass. It's made for constant use and play, and it's very durable. I wouldn't have considered using it if it were going to break or shatter in the process of cutting it, let alone through constant use of the product.

I have a block of craft rubber which I'll probably use to start out with, but I'm not sure if I like the feel of it. It'll be a bit too clammy.
