I tried to update my macbook today and the update kept freezing at the very beginning of the update with the "configuring installation" message at the bottom. anyone have this problem?

Try to redownload the update from Apple webpage. http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_...-6_Combo_Update

Also repair your disk permissions before updating with the Disk Utility in the Utilities folder (inside Applications folder). That might help.
