Hacking M3 Mini homebrew problems?

I have a V2 of the M3 Mini (I just ordered it and waiting on my miniSD card).

I just read in the DOOM thread that this card has trouble with homebrew. I find this very disappointing. Is there anything I can do aside from returning it?
