M3 Game Manager v30A & Firmware 30c

Upgrade!

They have yet again put out another update, though odd we're seeing a firmware of a higher version than the Game Manager. Interesting, isn't it? Here are the changes:

Firmware V30C:

· Supports game icon display.

· Fixed the unstable game save problem of the "M3 Lite Pro" for some TF cards.

Game Manager V30A:

· More new games are supported.

I wonder which new games they're talking about. Grab it from here and enjoy!

It crashes when I try and go to my homebrew folder, and the text gets all messed up when scrolling through folders in the game section. Back to the last firmware for me. Anyone know where I can get previous versions of the firmware?

Yeah, skinners are going to need to redo their skins to comply with this. It's all messered up. The default skin is so slow. I do like the icons, because it tells me the game name below it, which is nice.

Showing the icons and stuff is a pretty cool feature. It's good seeing them, as I never really paid attention to them before they were on my DS.

Haven't noticed any problems with the skin I use though(I think I have DSPhat 1.1 by Voltz). The games list doesn't seem to be messed up.

Hope to hear what new games are supported now. Don't they usually say which ones when a new update is released? =\

I wonder what the new games are? I know of a few new games that have come out in the past 12 hours that are not listed on the front page.

anyone tried mate tony?

edit:
following settings won't work:
1) 4x / trim -> crashes after title screens
2) 1x / no trim -> crashes after title screens
3) safe mode / no trim -> doesn't even start

To hell with tony hawk it will never work, and it's the only damn online racing game that's come out in a long time that doesn't want to work. Oh well i guess next month's release will be a better vs game than that was anyway, but i wonder if it is even worth playing?

Really? That kinda worried me when I read that, but when I try it, works fine in my homebrew folder. It's kind of nice actually, to see the authors icons, (although most are just the Padlib logo) Maybe it's a specific piece of homebrew? Hm.

Interesting update since the m3 team said that icon preview would not be supported by m3 because of a design problem. But, here it is.
Thanks Spade for the head up.

Brilliant! Now I can have icons on my M3 too and not be envious of other card users having this feature! It's just looks a lot better than text

Too bad it's not displaying the JP or Chinese characters properly for JP games.

Will this conflict with some skins for the M3? I've been using the one that was created by a user here (think the name was TonyHawkGC or something) and I'm so used to that now.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
