LZ77OUT 0.2:

Compress a file to LZ77 format readable by the Wii.

* Version 0.2 Enhancements*
-Implement functions to decompress files.
-Added the option of signing with IMD5 header.
-Detects if your file is headed with IMD5 and offers to remove the header to work.
Tip-if the wav file to be compressed, and warns that you may not reduce its size.
A lot of bugs fixed in the previous version.

banner.bin and icon.bin in banners, for example.

it's a compressed file format. Kinda like ZIP.

i would guess the LZ stands for Lempel & Ziv, the 2 creators of the LZ compression technique used in GIF, LZH, etc..
