Linux runs like shit?

Gotta agree mostly with a9lh-1user, arch is the way to go. I wouldn't necessarily call it hard but it does require some reading if you dont know linux, which is never a bad thing as you really should understand your operating system to some level. Awesome is another great tiling window manager, I prefer it to i3.

What's your reason for switching? In your case I would just stick with Windows. Some hardware seems to still have shitdrivers under Linux. I gave up on it in 2009, to never return.

Oh yeah Linux Mint. I've got it installed on my crappy Thinkpad T-61 and that's a blast compared to Windows. So much better over all for the shit specs. Smooth, responsive and sexy interface

Yeah I was thinking about Cinnamon but I personally do not care for it since the code is too Linux centric and I prefer the lighter weight MATE (Cinnamon is middle weight afaik but MATE is a little lighter).

Can't tell because I never used Mate. I've had no problem with Cinnamon so far.
