Any p2p afficionado understands that different clients have their uses. Bittorrent may be the mainstream choice for widespread dissemination, but that doesn't negate Limewire/Frostwire, eMule, or Direct Connect (dc++).

One of the fatal flaws of bittorrent is that they have a limited lifespan. If it's new and popular, this is good. If it's been around for months or even years, then chances are it's defunct. Files on eMule tend to outlive torrents by years. And if you consider slow: there are methods of speeding up the queue. The fact that some people are unaware of this is evidence of their personal ignorance.

Direct Connect is excellent for niche filesharing. You can find hubs dedicated to interests like comic books, music, etc. that may not be as popular on torrent sites. It's primarily a collector's tool because you're dealing with other users and their own shares which are typically comprehensive compared to the hodge podge of files shared on alternative networks.

When I get back home later this month, I'll be eager to check out this newest Limewire.
