Laptop crashed.

So I'm sure some of you have read my last blog, but to make things worse, my laptop's hdd crashed and burned and is no longer functioning, and the other back-up hdd I had isn't even the same kind so it doesn't even fit . . . so now I'm screwed. I need to find a working proper fitting hard-drive

LUCKILY, 2 days ago, I backed up all my IMPORTANT shit onto my girlfriends external hdd. Sweeeet.

Back on topic you should at least do the following

1) Try using a dock or enclosure and see if the drive is bad. Always worth checking!
2) Check if your laptop hard drive is still under warranty. Check the manufacturer's website. There might be a recall or if you're lucky it's still under warranty
3) Are you sure it's the hard drive? uniess it's making weird audio noises (clicking, grinding, the howings of the damned) it could be another component.

What doyama said but I will also say head on down to http://puppylinux.org/main/Overview%20and%...g%20Started.htm - it runs wonderfully from a CD and does pretty much everything a regular OS does. No sense having a downed computer for a lack of a hard drive.

After backing up all your files try opening up the external hdd because usually inside theres a 2.5" hard drive.
