What's your opinion on the coalition government? Incompetent seriously, they seem to have rolled in and seem somewhat deluded. I'm looking at Cameron's Big Society, the Tuition Fees fiasco, Michael Gove and now the NHS reforms. THe NHS reforms are just out of order, the Tories stated in thier bastard manifest they wouldn't impose any changes to the NHS and less than a year later they're pushing through huge reforms for it. And it's pretty clear it's been planned for a while so they've clerly lost the moral arguement on sticking to thier word.
Are they cutting fast and hard positively or are they just screwing up the country even more? That'a wait and see tbh, I would have prefered a longer andmore cautious approach becasue I just don't much faith in the economy. But hey the last quarter growth figures were terrible and the fact they're trying to absolve themselves of any blame and to pass it onto the snow is childish. And now inflation has gone up again. If we do go double dip than I hope htey have the decency to alter the economic policy adn economic team. In addition (I know he independent) Mervin King should resign as Governer as BoE. his job is to curb inflation and if he can't do that than he should do the decent thing and go.
What do you think of Cameron taking away the police checks for a section of people who work with children? I'm surprised they're allowing this to hapen. I thought Labour went way too far in the civil liberties debate (which this is part of) but the CRB checks were pretty sound ideas. I know it's extra bearacacy (sp I know) but anyone with patience should just deal with it. I've been checked myself a few years and I don't it puts off people form working with kids.
How's life treating you in general? Ok I guess, it's just hit home at how much I don't fit in at Uni which is pretty disapointing as I was always told University was some sort of great open liberal land. So far all I've met are annoying right wing morons and idiotic student socialists adn than there's the student politicians.
Seen any good films lately? I saw the damned United which was pretty good. Everyone loves Cloughie
Read anything decent lately? Just general political thoery like Hegel which is an absolute pain
Is it wrong that I purposely use alot of rhyming slang when speaking to the American at the BHF I volunteer in because it confuses the fuck out of her and makes her stand there looking at me like I speak a foreign language? No. I'd do it myself. Than again I'm a terrible human being.
Your thoughts on Camerons "failed multi-culturalism" speech? I thought it was quite simplistic and to an extent naive. The focus seemed to be very much on Muslims but the way he went on about it, he was talking as muslims were some sort of rave when they're not. There are a number of different groups who happen to be muslim and each of these groups have thier own distinct identity which the mainstream media don't seem open to acknowledge for example the Bangladeshi community are very different to their pakistani or Iraqi counterparts. They have thier own language and culture but the one commonality they have is that the majority of thse groups are muslim. So to lump them all in one group really sounds harsh on the groups
who have integrated. My favourite example of this is the Indian restaurant which has become an insitution and one hell of an industry in this country. And guess what? There's about 10 000 of these restaurants in this country adn about 7800 are Bangladeshi who tend to be muslim. In addition when Cameron talked about communities living seperate live, he was just focusing on cultural and religious divide, what about economic and educational divide? If you've parents are immigrants who have no qualifications who live in whitechapel becasue its cheap, the chances you wouldn't have many life chances and end up living in whitechapel with little qualifications with other children of immigrants especially when you take into account how bad social mobility is in this country. Than again it goes for those who have money do live seperate lives also, like public schools for example, I live in Harrow and two minutes form where I live is road full of millionaires and on that road is a physical gate seperating them form everyone else. Surely we should knock it down if we really want a more stornger united society?
Did you see Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, leader of the EDL, on Newsnight? He was really was an uneducated idiot.
