maybe the kinect isnt racist, but it def doesn't like me. why else would it be $149.99? the wii remote is $40 and the sensor bar is like $5 (? maybe free if you make your own). combine the two and charge 149? someone doesn't like me in that equation.

I wasn't really interested before I heard the news. I just thought it was a shame. but am relieved for anyone who wants this.

(I think the US consumer report is just as reliable as these rumors)
pretty sure i believe the consumer report over some gamers at gamestop.

QUOTE(Joe88 @ Nov 7 2010, 02:19 AM) trolls?

the news came from gamestop employees
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6283514.html
I stand by what I said.

He said Gamespot not gamestop. And I would trust Gamespot equal with a consumer report seeing because they are a well known game site they aren't going to spread rumors like madness.

This is neat. All those little infrared projections. It almost makes me wish they were visible, so you'd actually see them while playing.

However, now that I know the technology behind it, it's no wonder Kinect is so finicky to some users. Any and all foreign objects that are in the vicinity get picked up by it.

We encounter all sorts of radiation everyday, and infrared is common. Think of it this way: if infrared only has a slightly higher radiation than FM radio waves, there's nothing to be worried about. Even visible light has more radiation than infrared. So in a short answer: no.

I'm such a chemistry nerd.

Sunlight contains it, since it's a color. The pic below is half infrared camara half normal camara.

Well, by the looks of things, it is far more than two IR lights, so we're talking maybe a few hundred of the sensor bars

Radiation comes under Physics more than Chemistry.
You sir, have just been out nerded. Bazinga.

Edit: Please, somebody!! Take me to a bar! With women! I NEED HELP!!!!

If you're wondering he's actually more of a math nerd. Insert stereotype here.

But I don't really think it's a secret and some people are still saying it could use some more finetuning on the end product.

What!?
XD
it was revealed by many sources that it has problems detecting african american faces and only them

so no problems with black people from other countries?

The black people myth was debunked. Further testing with dark skinned users proved that it wasn't an error caused by skin coloration.

Also, nando, that was a brilliant comment. I'm not being sarcastic, it actually took me a while to get it and I lol'd when you did.

ON TOPIC: ROFLMFOA at the 'racist Kinect' thing.
And wow, dots living in my room (well not mine, not getting Gayn... I mean Kinect)!

Don't know what this is about but that man has a job cleaning all that algae off of his living room.

Anyways, that is awesome it seems like super advanced motion capture and it would be a shame if it was kept just to xbox, this has potential.

It would be racist if inside the programming was this:

if dark skinned person
{
Quit
}

else

Instead dark skinned people just absorb more light which has problem with reflecting back to the bar. Solution, more light =P

----

That's pretty cool how kinect works though, looky the pretty colors! =)

They should sell a new version that is 2x as bright specifically for black people!

Sell a new version that when it detects a possible error in reflecting light from a body to display a warning:

"Due to the nature light, you may need to wear some reflectors tape attached to your head, arms, hands, legs, and toes. Thank you"

He was joking while you were being creepily serious.
Also, we like him.

For anyone else worried, don't forget, heat is also infrared radiation.
