started making all sorts of weird noises and rattles.
cant read in anything, originals, copies gc games or the wii key config disc.
What do I do its out of guarantee?
I was in the same type of situation (messed up my Wii DVD-Drive, loud humming/rattle/the odd griding noise, worked inconsistently) after I had bought the retail version of Smash Brothers Brawl. (which my Wii couldn't read)
Called Nintendo, said my Wii wouldn't load the new copy of Brawl and told them it started acting freaky after trying to load it. (which it did)
They had me send it in (free shipping to-and-from) due to the Brawl issue and it came back 8 days later with a new D2C drive inside. (Which runs like a dream, I must say) Keep in mind my warranty had been expired for some time. This was a SSBB issue, remember.
If you have Brawl, try it. Even if you don't, just buy Brawl and put the repair claim in. (remember how some older Wii's couldn't read Brawl?)
They aren't too picky about the particulars of what happened anyways. (my wii had obvously been opened before) They contract out the repair work.
Even if you have to buy Brawl (which is very much worth supporting btw), it's still way way cheaper than buying a new DVD Wii drive or a whole new Wii.
ps: maybe have the kids ask you or another adult to change games for them..my little guy and I have this agreement and the discs stay in *much* better condition this way -- kids often don't know any better and they tend to treat the delicate game discs like they treat their toys -- pretty rough
