Would be a kind of kickstand hard drive possible?
I mean there's space for the stand at the microSD slot, maybe it's enough for a special SSD that use the microSD card slot.

I mean, if it's gonna use the micro SD slot, it's still gonna be limited to what microSDs can do isn't it? Even if we could fit a M.2 there I doubt it'd do any better

In terms of speeds yeah, there won't be any big improvement same way even using a Sandisk Extreme is worse than the Ultra because Switch doesn't support the faster format, its just compatible, but doesn't use the full speed of the extreme making it a very bad option for a M-SD as its quite a lot more expensive than the Ultra and on a test on youtube, the Ultra was even faster loading games though for like a second...

In terms of space SSD is still a lot limited and not much cheaper than an actual SD card depending on the GB... a 120 to 128 GB SSD with older Sata III interface here is around 40€ and the 128GB M-SD Sandisk A1 Ultra is also ~40€.

Only a HDD would be a cool option in terms of capacity per price, though I don't think the SD port will be able to output that power maybe it would need to be powered by a external power bank to work, we most likely needed to buy a internal 2.5 HDD and buy a case with power input (some have separated power for more demanding hardware). Most power banks have multiple ports so it can power the HDD and the console at the same time and give HUGE play time specially a 20A power bank with Power Delivery from 5 to atleast 15V with multiple port outputs.

But we still need someone making some adapter from M-SD to USB...

Could you elaborate how the extreme could be slower? It’s like the usb2/3 thing, it can go fast if the switch doesn’t bottleneck. Or is there something special about the ultra? As far as I know, the ultra series just uses cheaper components than the extreme series

Because sometimes things go wrong when not using the propper support I guess...

Same way some fast USB3.0 pen drives can sometimes be slower than the best USB 2.0 pen drives in a USB 2.0 port, while connecting the 2.0 one in the 3.0 port won't do much or nothing at all while the USB 3.0 pen drive goes Sky high in speeds on a 3.0 port...

That's my guessing from the video of the guy who tested he claims all games loaded around 1 second faster on the Ultra than on the Extreme and the Switch can't really use the extra speed that the Extreme provides (Its compatible, but not supported as Switch SD controller is probably hitting the full max speed below it, it was cool if it had UHS III support for upto 624MBps ;) ).

Even on Sata III 4 example there is HUGE speed differences from controller to controller... Some 500MBps SSD Sata III drives sometimes run very bad on some Sata III ports depending on their controller while on some motherboards they get a huge speed increase, I have a huge performance problem on my Laptop Sata III controller 4 example, no matter what Sata III SSD or HDD I use the controller is so bad that makes it sometimes to run almost as bad as a IDE old Drive ;).

There is one already but it has usb 2.0 speeds and is no longer produced

lol what

how the hell would you even connect that

also, hard drives are almost as big as the Switch itself.

Same way you have a power bank with 20A the size of the Switch... It just rests on the table or on your legs or whatever and would attach the usb cable on the connector. Though all of this is not likely to happen unless atmosphere could later add USB-C OTG storage support for loading games which then we would connect the HDD to the USB-C port of the Switch (this is probably a more realistic option than the actual M-SD to HDD or SSD...).

Or maybe activating Switch dock USB ports for internal storage on the atmosphere...
