You're forgetting we're talking about Sony, who is also a member of RIAA.
They can't even work out console DRM that is at least smart enough to figure out how to let you move your data in the event of a prior console failing on you.
If they had their way, you'd be forced to buy a 3D TV and $400 glasses to even run one anymore. And you'd have about eight different kinds of memory sticks for your PSP, none of which would interoperate with each other.
That's a horrible analogy, I see it as more like someone removing the speed limiter on a car, yeah, now you CAN do something you couldn't before, doesn't necessarily mean you will though.
