"Mr. Iwata did not make any comments regarding the functions of Nintendo's future hardware systems. The answer to the reporter's question was misinterpreted." - Charlie Scibetta, Nintendo of America's senior director of corporate communications

The comments in question:
QUOTE said:
"[It will have] highly detailed graphics, and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing."

As for the comment about Zelda making the 2010 release date:

Do you believe this is true?

Whatever.

What the heck does NOA know? We're talking about a whole different country, mate.

I doubt he was "misinterpreted". I bet he leaked some 'important' information that he wasn't supposed too. Whatever. I think his 'claims' are true. Now, all I can do is wait and see (until the DS2 is out, that is).

Lol, so it's THAT easy to misinterpret the statement that said that the next Nintendo handheld was in development, will have motion sensing, and high res screen(s)?

This is just NoA's spin and denial as usual. They do it for marketing reasons. Most people who knew a new DS/handheld was coming would choose not to buy the current gen ones. I certainly would, and am. That's one reason i chose not to even considering getting a DSi, because a new one is being developed apparently. The DSi just came out in the US, the XL isn't even out yet here. Of course they're going to deny a DS2 or whatever it is, they want people to buy the older ones first and squeeze all they can out of the customer.

This has happened before if i recall. Nintendo of America is not in the know about everything and they can tell whatever lies they wish about what Iwata said. And how the hell do you completely mistranslate something so obvious?

If you follow Nintendo history, they repeatedly stated that they usually start to work on the next system shortly after the current one gets released.
And it makes sense, as it takes a few years to develop a decent system.
I have no doubts that they already have working prototypes of Wii2 ( or whatever they'll call it ) and DS2.
The reason they don't talk about it , as it's being mentioned earlier in this tread, is because they try to 'squeeze' whatever they can out of the current generation, and if they give an hint that a new system is almost ready people will refrain to buy the old ones naturally !
Also Nintendo of Japan has always been super secret about their projects because 'the competition' always try to look and steel innovative ideas and try to beat them on the release date with copy cat hardware and software.
There must be quite an army of 007 like spy in the business !
I just patiently wait and see what the future brings, and most of the times it surpasses my hopes and imagination when it comes to Nintendo !
