Issue with 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth, or it it the adapter's fault?

I was having a good time last weekend playing Far Cry 4 on my LCD Deck, then I tried it again this weekend but to my surprise I was let down by a miscommunication between the adapter and the controller that would manifest itself over and over again.
I'd like to figure out how this mini-board works, there's just a few components on it anyways.

So, I have investigated a little further, and I thought it would be a good idea to remove the crystal oscillator and see how the board would react. After removing the crystal, I measured across the pads, and while I got a high resistance, which is expected, I then did a cross measurement, and I got a short (light blue spots). 7 Ohms reading in resistance mode. Sometimes lower than that.

So the next step would be to see what caused that short, I went for the load capacitors right next to the crystal pads. I didn't remove the caps, only moved them to the side, partially desoldering them and the results are on the picture (each result for a different probe tip). I'm not sure if I'm following a ghost here, but it seems the low resistance cap is driving the crystal to ground. So maybe that behavior is expected and I should look elsewhere? I could be wrong tho. I could use your help.
