I know how to spoof my network cards MAC address
I know how to change my routers MAC address
But my cable modem has it's own MAC address - I dont think you can change this one

*They called in that MAC address when they turned on the cable modem - probably to authenticate incase someone "stole" a bunch of cable modems and gave them out. Only can be activiated by a call in

Good luck with what you do. Let us know what happens.

You can spoof a MAC, but the MAC is tied to your service. If you change the MAC to a MAC address that is not currently set to receive WOW Internet, your Internet connection will stop working. If you spoof it with a MAC that does have WOW service, the network will spot a duplicate and your connection will still stop working.

Do not spoof your MAC address, it's a horrible idea. Start encrypting your traffic and stop being stupid about your downloading habits. And for everybody trying to turn this into an argument of why they think Usenet is better than Torrents, unencrypted traffic is still unencrypted traffic.

Agreed. Except the duplicate MAC part... if the router's behind (or is) the cable modem then it should be fine.

Oh and one final recommendation. Don't get your legal advice from gbatemp.

super LOL

Considering how much of GBATemp caters to a certain demographic and this community hasn't been taken down, I'd wager DO in fact take these people's advice to heart.

k we called. They said they will be monitoring our service and if a third time comes up they will take legal action (fines and up to 90 days in jail). So I guess no more downloading fir me.

You might want to go to the store, buy those two games, then go down to the office personally (well, with your parents) and state that you were only interested in getting the images as backups for your "legitimately puchased" games, showing them the games (get them at GameStop or something, and peel off any stickers, make them look like you've had them a while).

ISPs have to honor the DMCA Law. Give them a pretense to keep you as a customer and STOP USING TORRENTS. Premuim Usenet servers and file servers like Rapidshare might costs some money, but they are well worth it in speed, convenience, and most importantly: anonymity.

those are scare tactics... apparently they have worked on you... dont give into the man!!! \o/

Wow....
Are they going to send you a note stating this?
Can you post it?

This may be the wake up call for some people.

Good thing you got off easy - congrats!!!

TMac Mac address changer:
Changes MAC address of my NIC card - not my cable modem
QUOTE said:
How Does It Work ?

This software just writes a value into the windows registry. When the Network Adapter Device is enabled, windows searches for the registry value 'NetworkAddress' in the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1- 08002bE10318}\[ID of NIC e.g. 0001]. If a value is present, windows will use it as MAC address, if not, windows will use the hard coded manufacturer provided MAC address. Simple? Some Network Adapter drivers have this facility built-in. It can be found in the Advance settings tab in the Network Adapter's Device properties in Windows Device Manager.

So how does writing a value in my Windows registry change my cable modem? It doesnt
(*besides I dont need software to do that on my NIC Card- network properties lets me already as stated above)

I wasnt looking to encrypt anything or use P2P or the likes - I was just commenting on "changing mac addresses to get around stuff" earlier in this thread. Cable modem MAC address cannot be spoofed. At least mine cannot

Dude, we got a USB launcher now. I'm sure those downloads are from before it was released. But I'm just saying get a 1 month Gamefly trial. Rent a game a day, install it, mail it back. You could probably install all the good games the wii has in less than 30 days and cancel.

No money out of pocket. No torrents or downloading. No letters in the mail.

Problem solved.

Really, you think installing ten games is going to destroy your lense?

I'm pretty sure it won't, as of i've done about 20 games lol... That was of course before USB loader was released.

lol - why do people start saying things like that about the wii lense ?
What do they think it does when its playing the game ?

Seriously - think about this logically - to play a game it has to read the game from the disc , to copy a game it has to read it from the disc ... erm see a similarity anywhere ?
LOGIC PEOPLE !

well using the usb loader you wouldnt really need those lens now? after you copied all the games you like?
