Waninkoko said, that there's a PC application (made by Kwiirk) to copy your ISOs to your HDD formatted with the WBS filesystem. (You can also make two partitions on your HDD).

Source: Theoretic problem with putting ISOs on External USB Hard Drives (On Page 2, waninkoko replies to some questions)
Sorry to say that, but it still sucks ...
I truly find Waninkoko software really good (Wii DVD Dumper is awesome for ex) but, I think using a non-standard FS is a really bad idea.
Kwiirk made a PC app to transfer files, good, but will it be portable (WinXP, Vista, *Nix, MacOS) ?
I personnally use MacOS X (10.4, not the last one available) and I'm sure a lot of guys here use GNU/Linux so it's a real concern ...
Anyway, I look forward to the release because it still looks very good.

You will still be able to dump stuff on the Wii. Have anyone gotten DVD(+/-)RWs to work?

Dunno never heard of him/her.
Pretty sure kwiirk hasn't developed anything else.

EDIT:
Ohhhh okay.

I'm not so keen on the mention of a new 'WBS' filesystem either. People often think they can make a 'better' filesystem, but after a while realise they need to deal with fragmented files, subfolders, and all the other bits and bobs and would have been better off porting an existing filesystem. Not only that, existing filesystems can be read/written with existing tools rather than needing proprietary stuff.

I expect we'll find that WBS is just a quick hack to get things working at the beginning, but eventually he'll move to ext2 or something, similar to the way the first DVD-R loader required decrypted games before changing to using 1:1 copies. Then the problem will be what all the people who have formatted their drive to WBS will do!

That's what I'm thinking too. Why put effort in a FS, which only serves one purpose and does at best the same job of many existing FSs...

Would be great if your suggestion comes true...
OK I agree but how use an "ext2/3" filesystem without a linux kerne on the wiil? (I know there is EXT3 drivers for windows but the problem is the same)
A filesystem is only a filesystem. Linux is not an obligation to access a ext2/3 or 4 fs. We could imagine wanin' develop his own piece of driver for Wii for any filesystem (extN or FAT or NTFS or HFS+ or whatever you want). Moreover there is no need to implement write on it, so it is simpler than a 'full' r/w driver.

I agree to use an existing fs instead of a home-made one, FAT32 with fragmented files, or NTFS (or extN whatever), but I found it better (compatibility, necessary tools to transfer, ...).

Without the implementation of write-methods, how will we be able to "install" games? It's definitly needed.

As for me, I also use Linux and ext[2-4] would have been perfect

he is the guy who coded the low level USB2 driver for IOSes
I'm sure most of the IOS modifications to run games from USB are from him

@joda : I've successfully played a DVD+/-RW burned game on my soft modded Wii. I didn't burned it, a friend of mine gave it to me in order to test my wii.
@invu : suppose that you 'install' games by connecting the HDD to a simple pc (that already has a the complete FS driver, eg : ext3 with GNU/Linux or NTFS with WinXP) and do some simple copy. Then you use the wii only to 'play' games, and it doesn't need to write on the HDD, only read. Do you see what I mean ? (sorry, I may be not clear)

According to the video, you can 'install' games on the Wii itself, which copies the game from the Wii disc to the HDD.

Interesting feature ...
I must confess, I didn't saw the video ...

EDIT:
I just saw the video, install feature seams really nice. So I was wrong about the read/write 'methods' to implement ... (but I didn't changed my mind about the FS choosen

I'd like to see (or have some info on) the PC app to manage the HDD too ...
