Hacking Is this normal? Glue on the board?

Got this DS from someone on a different board, sold as faulty..

I've repaired 2 DS's before - but never seen one with glue on it.. Is this normal??

Not normal, that's probably the reason it was sold as "faulty."
I guess that thing is some sort of insulator. Why it's there is beyond me.
Or maybe the seller tried to replace the shell and accidentally spit out his gum on the DS...
 
Maybe the epoxy ressin didn't harden yet when he put the DS back together? makes more sense than GUM..
 
I've opened 2 lites, they both had a dollop of glue in them, I assumed to make it harder to open or something. But as it seems not to be the norm, perhaps I should have solde them on ebay as 'rare'.
