Is this a good time to get a PS4?

So, I've been saving for a while to buy a PS4. But after E3, I'm not sure if I get a PS or Xbox. I don't own a good PC for gaming so I'll have to rely heavily on one console only. Also, there is news of a 1TB version coming for both consoles. Should I wait some more?

P.S.: I want to play third person shooters online most of the time and RPGs.

As someone who owns both, I'd recommend the PS4. I came from playing my Xbox360 more than the PS3, due to the online community being much better, but with the price and some of the exclusives (TLOU, Uncharted series, basically anything by Naughty Dog), my friends all bought PS4's, so I ended up buying one so I'd have a steady online community to play with. There's always tons of people on BF4 and GTA5, and that works for me.

I'd get the 1TB console if it's not too much money more than the standard. I checked an unboxing video out, and the mechanical buttons over the touch sensitive buttons are definitely a plus.

Unfortunately, the 1TB version is only set to launch in Europe at this point (and doesn't have a release date anywhere else at present). Assuming OP is in Brazil, that would mean importing, which between the cost after currency conversion and import fees, likely wouldn't be worthwhile.

Edit: It's also worth noting that the 1TB version doesn't officially launch until July 15th, and it shouldn't be coming with any of the new revision upgrades (so touch sensitive buttons, glossy finish, notably still present). I dunno what unboxing video you saw, but it doesn't sound quite right.

Edit 2: It's even worth noting further that the new PS4 revision currently just has a "coming to non-Japanese markets later" release date, and they weren't supposed to start rolling out new revision PS4's in Japan basically until the last few days of this month.

That's the 500GB console, which makes sense since Sony said the CUH-1200 series would only be coming as (at least at first) the 500GB model.

Honestly, you could probably put together a PC that will play games just as well as the PS4 or Xbox One. Nothing fancy, but it should do. That's only if you're interested in the PC route. If not, then it just comes down to what exclusives you want. Both the PS4 and Xbox One are going to give you similar experiences with multiplatform titles.

The only thing I have against MS is they're the ones that tried to push online DRM. Yeah, that was a while ago, but it wouldn't surprise me if they try to push it again next generation.

Considering there is absolutely no telling when/if a homebrew solution may ever appear on the PS4, your best bet is not to hold out hope for it. Ideally, you'll decide based on exclusives, since multiplats are an irrelevant factor, as well as what your budget can handle. If homebrew and piracy are more important to you for whatever reason, then by all means hold out. All systems seem to be hacked eventually in some way.

In the end, only you can decide if the system is worth buying. All relevant information about games available and otherwise is readily available with a couple quick Googles.

Have to disagree with that. Multiplats are an important tidbit of the console's pros and cons too because unlike the Xbox One the multiplat ports are for the most part great and if you're a console gamer then PC gaming isn't even an option.

PS4 is the 360 of this gen.

Anyway, I've set up a wishlist of PS4 games but so far it's still not big enough (only 29) so I'll wait till the end of the year to see if it grows.

Thank you all for the replies. I live in Brazil and importing isn't an option due to heavy taxes. I'll wait some more. A lot of what's been written here are my concern as well and I think I can squeeze a little out of life from my PS3 (and my Wii too -- I'm a Nintendo fan :D ) for a couple months. The scenario might be a bit a little more clear near the end of the year.

I'm glad you asked this question; I was actually going to ask. When will there be another price drop for the PS4? Whether it slightly fell or not? I'm assuming when the new model is released, there will be a sale on the new model...

    I forgot
The best idea is to wait for the first price drop, which (with the new models coming out) should be within the next few months. I'd imagine by the holiday season, Sony will give the PS4 a $50 price drop (plus all the bundles and such).

That will also give you time to wait for most of the exclusives and games coming out around then as well

You guys have a way of "borrowing" games over there so that should help out.

In that case, a PC would be a better choice. But I'm stuck with principles...

Why do you need over 29 games?

Different people put a different value on things, due to experiences and income. For some, a PS4 can be quite the investment and they justify the price by its library. For me, a small handful of games I want to play is all it takes to get me to buy a console (assuming they're not on PC or something else I already own), but for others it could be up to 50 games or more.

If the PS4 gets its price slashed as part of Prime Day, and it fits into my budget for PC parts, I'd get it.
