IE i assembled my first PC when i was 10. Honestly its not that hard to do. and will usually save you a bit of money.

No you don't.
Just buy yourself a gtx 580 and you'll be set for about 5 years.

QFT. Not to mention that with a kick-ass PC you can do so much more than only PC gaming. I've recently done some research and my Q6600 + 8800GTS 512 of almost 3 years ago can now run some PS2 games perfectly

Like seriously, how awesome is that?

If you have a kick-ass PC with more power than you know what to do with, you can always set up folding@home. Not only will it make use of whatever resources you're not using (say, 6 of the 8 threads in a Core i7), it'll also use it for a good cause (like medical research or astronomical simulations).

Age doesn't matter. Anyone can do it; it just takes time, patience, and a good place to work at.

By building your own PC, you learn more about the insides of your box and will know how to troubleshoot in case a problem occurs. This way, you won't be on the phone for hours on end with HP trying to get some guy from New Delhi. India to explain how to reseat your RAM.

Are you sure you have an HP Elite HPE-320A? If so, it's impossible for you to have an i7, as all HPE-320As use an AMD Phenom 2 X6 1035T.

I don't think, honestly, that it matters what we think, since the kid's mother is buying it for him. She's probably not going to have confidence in his building abilities. That said, building one would be a very good experience and besides the individual part warranties, you get a fun weekend project.
