I've played every game I put on my Supercard DStwo with the circle pad. I'm pretty sure Nintendo assigned the circle pad to be the same on the D-pad for DS games.

I find it necessary for most 2D games to still be played with the D-pad, though... Menu selection is a pain with a circle pad.

if you want to save money buy the r4i gold (http://www.r4ids.cn). it supports the new firmware, wood kernel, and has a very high compatibility rate with roms and homebrew. if you want features (real time save, exclusive emulation, slow-motion, in-game guide, fuzzy cheat finder, alternate video format playback, etc) then grab a scds2. the price is greater and it will eat a bit more of the battery life.
