Gaming is the xbox live membership card region locked?

i was about to buy my self a one year gold membership card from amazon but someone told me that it's region locked :/ to the EMAIL used to sign up for a gamer tag.
can someone please conifm this?

i bought my console from singapore. it's the NTSC J version (it obviously runs region free games just fine). it's modded.
i live in the uk and signed up my gamer tag on a ymail.com account that i made in the uk.

1.does this mean i need a new games tag with an email from a japanese site?
2.will this mean i have to buy my membership card from asia?
3.and does this mean that i will only connect to asian servers/rooms or are the lobby's worldwide?

my free one month membership ran out a couple of weeks ago but it worked just fine.

Xbox live time is region free i think, its just points which are region locked.

It might be worth checking out play-asia and see what people say there regarding items like time, just check the comments on japanese cards/american/etc.

just checked it out. you are right. the membership is region free.
only the points are region locked.
