Gaming Is PSP Fat still usable?

I dont see why not. Sony may eventually quite support for it, but not very soon as the slim and lite is still semi-new and they aren't selling several million of them just yet.

Plus the homebrew support is very good on this system (Or thats my understanding anyway. I'm a Nintendo Nut and haven't ever dabbled any deeper in the PSP than playing Cars on my 8 yo cousins.)

Sony do not support, liscence, or endorse any CFW or any form of homebrew application. The only reason why they do not openly prosecute DAX, M33, Team C+D, and anybody else involved in homebrew develpment, is because much of their staff (or so I hear) are themselves using custom firmware and all manners of homebrew applications. They even use the pandora to unbrick and fix any PSP sent to them for repairs - and that's the only reason they cannot stop Datel from selling their TOOL batteries.

In the same way, Nintendo do not support any flashware for use on DS, or any homebrew for that matter. Some DSs have even been bricked by flashware (older versions of M3 loaders were known for this). I've never come across this myself, but I've not used my M3 Real for many homebrew applications aside from DSOrganise.

Also, sales for PSP have quadrupled since the release of PSP Slim&Lite, yet the list of changes is actually very small between the two versions. Support will probably continue until the release of the PSP2, although it's unlikely that the PSP2 will be released (if at all) until there are other 8th generation consoles to compare to (PS3 is seen as the epitome of 7th gen consoles - and there are some features that allow PSP and PS3 to interact, making them perfect partners).

Yeah, updates will come out for the PSP fat. It's like an idea saying that Nintendo will release DS Lite-only games.

There isnt much difference btw DS Original+Lite. Hell, its the same except some button locations

I think there is an extreme difference between the two. Better sound, lighting, screens, size, weight, shape. It's a complete upgrade

You're forgetting that it has twice as much memory for predictive reading from the UMD (means it'll spin less and preserve the battery whilst speed up loading time). But it also does not have the 1.5 kernal, meaning that some homebrew (and pandora downgrades) don't work.

But playing on both, I just find that I prefer the slim. It may feel cheap, but it feels lighter, and that helps when playing for long periods.

Interesting. The only thing holding me back on a PSP is the fear it'll be outdated soon (this summer? E3?) because of a new handheld announcement.

This is like buying a new monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers for your computer and saying it got a "complete upgrade". Nothing has been improved where it really counts.

Actually loading speed is improved a little bit but that only counts if you use UMDs.
Loading speed from memory sticks should be the same =P
