Hacking Is modding safe?

I want to softmod my PS3 so that I can run homebrew and play backed-up games. Is it safe to do this with current modding methods? Can I un-mod my PS3? Has anyone ever been banned from the PSN, denied certain privelages, or banned from games by using an unofficial copy (pirated for example) or for playing on a modded PS3?

Also, I'm on Version 4.10. Can this version be modded?

Modding is safe in the fashion that knowing what you are doing you will most probably not break anything too bad, and if you do you knew the risks. Unmodding should be possible depending on your PS3. 4.10 I am unsure about, do a google or look around here on GBAtemp for longer then it took you to post this question. Pirated games & banning: happened. CFW'd consoles and banned: unsure, probably but AFAIK not so much a hype as with the xbox360.

Its worth noting that if you mod your ps3, you currently cant get on psn and you can't play most newer games as they require newer firmware.

No person anywhere has gotten banned by having a ps3 with CFW/MFW. The people that got banned used hacks/cheats online.

You have to downgrade your PS3 to 3.55 to get CFW, and the only way to do this (atm) is through a flasher (like the E3 Flasher). When you do so, you pretty much give up the right to play any newer games that hasn't been patched (which is quite a lot). You also can't play any games online either.

Also, you will get banned if you try to use the PSN.

Stop spreading these rumours... I went straight from hacked ps3 to unhacked online and I did not get banned. Haven't heard that anyone has gotten banned in the wide world
