Yes but by the time that happens it'll burn the plastic casing and plastics in the reader; it can also be that so many R/W cycles have killed it, btw exFat on switch corrupts so try using GUI Format on it.

Never happened to me since last years. So not that I know of. Maybe overclocked ? Thats possible, I think.

not likely. flash media have definite r/w cycles and if you fill the capacity to it's limits they tend to last a lot less. I always try to keep around 20% of the capacity free. I've had many sd cards go bad at 90%+ full. However I don't loose anything on them they just stop writing. Can't delete anything either. Even a format won't remove the data.

I have had a couple of sd-cards fail on me through the years, I don't think they burst into flames but you can call them fried.
