Hi. So I updated to 11.4 a while ago with everything, Luma, A9LH, CFW, probably 4 months ago. I had the no lines patch for Pokemon Sun and Moon at 1.1 for the game and I wanted to play it right now and try it out again. It received an update, 1.2, so I updated and relaunched the game, it said that an error occurred and to restart my 3DS so I did and retried it but it did the same thing. How do I fix this? Should I remove the no lines patch, if so, how would I do that? I just need a solution.

Try running the game without game patching enabled, and then see if it crashes. If it doesn't crash, remove your code.bin/code.ips and use an NTR plugin to remove the outlines...

It worked, I turned off game patching and the game loaded perfectly. Would I still have to do that second step where I remove code.bin/code.ips and so on, so on and if so, how would I do that?

Go into /luma/titles and find the title ID of your game. Then go into that folder, and delete the code.bin or code.ips. I would do it if you're someone who uses game patching often...

K, cool. But, once I do that, do I go into game patching and turn it on again?

im suprirsed its safe to do while you have CFW installed, thats the bit that throws me, do you guys update to 11.4 after you have succesfully got CFW installed, or do you stay on 11.3
~90% of us update to the latest firmware, and recommend you do the same.

It's perfectly safe to do so, whether it's necessary or not is the point @mrjoshuaco was debating.

I personally update, but I also create a NAND backup before doing so. that way you can always go back/downgrade to a previous firmware if for instance something were broken on the new firmware update. I think that's what a lot of people did with 11.4 and ntr not working properly. it does now though, so there's really no reason not to update.

whats the reccomended method for backing ones nand up, is there a thread or a guide out there?

u can backup your NAND with godmode9. that's the latest version. it will also build a sha to verify the dump. it's safe to do this, no guide needed. I think u press home in godmod9 to get to the command to backup your NAND. what each button does will be displayed on the screen, 'cause I'm basing this on memory.

ah i found a part of the 3dsguide that explains how to do a nand backup, the odd thing is though the guide tells you to update your firmware before doing a nand backup, check it out - https://3ds.guide/finalizing-setup

could i skip the updating part and do the rest including the nand backup. then do a firmware update at the very end, would that be okay?

You can do a NAND backup without updating your sysNAND.

Sorry, just one more question. I haven't deleted it yet :ha:, because the question I have to ask is, once I delete the code.ips, will my game still have update 1.2 or will it go back to update 1.1 or will it allow the no lines patch to work on 1.2 for Pokemon Sun? Thanks for your time, you've been really helpful.

It will still have update 1.2. Also, I don't know what exactly you're trying to say in the second part of your question, can you please rephrase that for me?

Sure, but you sort of already answered it. The rephrased question being, when I turn on game patching once I delete the code.ips, will I have the no lines patch? Also, will I have to do repeat this process with future updates like 1.3 and so on or will it save?

You do not need to do this with future updates, I'm not even sure why your code.ips wasn't working correctly...

So I removed the code.ips for the sd card using FBI and I turned on game patching. I put my game in and the same thing showed up, "an error occurred" and my 3DS restarted. Did I do anything wrong? Is there a reason why it's not working? It seems turning on game patching is crashing my game.

Hmmm, try finding a code.bin for Pokemon S/M on thatChaosSite, that will definitely fix your issue. Not to mention, you will be able to find without the outlines :)
