I think what the OP is getting at before everyone flamed his ass, is...

Will Atmosphere be a CFW built from the ground up, running completely independent of Horizon - ie with its own GUI etc etc. If it is built from the ground up as an open-source replacement for Horizon (more like Linux is doing on the NX) then it isn`t entirely unreasonable to wonder if it will run SIGNED code. We already know it would run unsigned code, this is bloody obvious.

Or will it be something like Mocha or Haxchi (only a few KB in size maybe) that is loaded as a patch to the Horizon OS, to permanently enable running unsigned code.

The OP appears to have asked a valid question (he maybe has not much prior recent knowledge of other CFW on other platforms).

But the answer is (I think). It is more like a shim for the horizon OS. Yes, signed/unsigned code will run. It won`t be a full replacement for Horizon, rather adds to it instead.

I'm curious if Atmosphere is intended only to add the function of home brew/alternate OS, or if it will allow you to run signed, Nintendo software as well from alternate locations. Because I don't recall seeing this mentioned anywhere.

The more I read, this is starting to look like a shim to allow home brew, and not a full-on hack of the switch OS a'la haxchi on the wiiu or the team xecuter firmwares on the old xbox.

Apologies if this has been answered - I just didn't see an answer and didn't feel like reading 59 pages of the Atmosphere thread.

Atmosphère seeks to extend Horizon while maintaining full API compatibility with the OS -- you'll certainly be able to play the games you've purchased.

First-class homebrew is a desirable goal -- and so is providing a framework for custom content modification (e.g., playing ROM hacks for Pokemon).

Apparently SciresM himself can't answer this question either : https://github.com/Atmosphere-NX/Atmosphere/issues/10

If I'm reading this correctly it's not an issue to run signed modules, it's what to patch and what will be useful. Atmosphere most definitely will be able to run signed code. In fact the Hekate IPL for 4.x and 5.x that's running around can also run normal games from carts and such. They just patched the album with the HBL on the fly, probably by having the os load the album from a patched SD card file rather than the one on the eMMC.
