iPlayer external subtitle function is coming soon
SRT support and customisable display

The iPlayer team have today announced that due to popular request they are currently developing a future firmware that will incorporate support for external subtitle files such as .SRT.

Not only will you be able to customise the font size, colour and more, they assure us that the font used is designed specifically for the DS screen to make for pixel-perfect reading.

Gambia, The
would be nice if subtitle could be displayed on either display. So there would be no problems with readable subs on bottom screen while playing 4:3 video on top
would take away battery life though

DS Screen is too small to consider it a serious movie player.
The subtitle function is not really something that shouldn't have been offer in the first place.
Just my 2 cents.

Regular ones work fine, no lag or anything, but for some odd reason, audio is off by like .5 seconds for one of my videos and 1 on the other. It is REALLY smooth, but I don't get why it desyncs even without seeking.

As for the extra power, I think it's been discussed before.

Thats why im kind of

about the whole thing, thanks you just confirmed this for me. I mean i never got that when i converted my videos to .DPG (just for the note im using imTOO DPG converter, its just the best) and i sometimes on purposely seek through the vid, to see if the audi de-syncs, yet it still runs fine. Lets hope that this will be fixed.

I think your over hyping this.
It will eventually die faster than any other flash cart out there for the sole reason that it doesnt play back ups.
100% of the people buy it for that reason no matter what hypocrites say.
We are in 09 where HDTV is the new rage, Blu ray etc.
Even the PSP and Ipod Touch have a better picture and resolution than the DS.
Nintendo just like keeping stuff inexpensive and do what it was meant to play games.

Awesome. That's what I've been asking for the moment I heard about the iPlayer. Now I'm sold. Probably going to get it the moment the firmware comes out.

I think you're trolling a bit..
I don't even think about what will happen in the future, it probably will die at some point.
I won't be getting this cart to play back ups or homebrew, I will get it for the multimedia (videos mostly)
I still don't care about HDTV or Blue Ray.
I don't own none of those devices, and I'm perfectly satisfied with the size of DS screens..
What does this has to do with playing videos on small screen?

That the iPlayer is a failure, and that this news about the subtitles being implemented should have been
available to begin with.
I'm not trolling I'm stating the facts.
Only those that don't have a HDTV wouldn't agree with me.
Anyone wanting to play videos on the go shouldn't look for a DS they should pick a PSP or iPod Touch/Phone.
Simply you can live without any gadgets its true, but if your here your not one of them.
Your one of us or their wouldn't be a reason to hang in this site.

So back to the thread The subtitle function would it really matter?
How many videos other than anime or foreign films would need subtitles?

MP4 runs, but my iPod H.264 encoded ones lag like hell. I just got it, so I haven't tested it with the regular ones yet. God I gotta find all these videos....

a lot of my decent-to-high quality videos are lagging quite a bit. .AVI has the best support it seems; I can run large files with (originally) larger sized videos without lagging it up. However, mpeg, mp4, wmv (good but not excellent quality), and .mov lag quite a bit.

That's just what I've noticed so far.

Nicee. That's an awesome feature. I am still waiting for 2 things:
- More features/extras
- Cheaper price

That sub-title thing is nice, especially for national videos that people may not understand. But right now, I am not going to be wanting to buy one of these yet. Imagine they could add lyrics to MP3s! That would be awesome, and I would want to get it if that feature ever came.
