Interview with Booboo
Dingux Developer
Horácio Dias: Hello! I am Nenoboy, who posts on his blog (My real name is Horácio Dias, I'm from Brazil). Sorry to annoy you for the question that I will do, but such a question is always made and remade by people who know the GA330. Well, my question is: how it is the development process of the Dingux (or Gemux) for the GA330? I would also like of some answers concerning the possible difficulties of the general progress of the project and if you have any estimated time of when you will launch the system to the GA330.
Booboo: Hi Horácio,
I'll try to be as specific as possible: the good part is that I have all the info required (though it sucks), the bad part is:
1- I must write ALL the drivers for the GA330.
2- I'm alone. There are tons of better kernel hackers out there, but they can't do much without the info, and so far it's ChinaChip confidential. Can't disclose it. Might be feasible to handle it to some other developer(s) under NDA.
3- I have a very limited amount of spare time to dedicate to it.
So as things are now, I sincerely don't know when it will be ready, and might not even become ready at all. On the other hand, if ChinaChip allocates a budget and hires me full time I'd say I could have a preliminary version in a month and a end-user version ready in another month. But as I said, that seems extremely unlikely at the moment.
Horácio Dias: Thank you for your work and commitment with the project. If you need of any help you can count with me.
Booboo: Thank you very much for you offer. Problem is that no one can be of any help without access to the CC1800 information, and I can't release it. I'll talk again to CC about it, just in case I can get the to change their minds, but I tell you I think it's very unlikely.
Horácio Dias: I would like to ask if you have knowledge about the release of an SDK that was made for the GA330, of which is essential for the evolution of the same?
Booboo: Not that I know of, but again, this topic never came up during my conversations with CC. I'll ask them.
