Upon looking through the Internet Channel files, I've noticed a lot of source is commented out. Most of it is CSS and JS, which is easy to work with.

Anyone up for helping out?

sorry, i'm no coder, but i'm very interested in what sort of functionality you'd be adding to the internet channel.

things like tabs?

just one thing i'd love to have

Tabs could easily be supplemented just by changing the homepage to one that has JS emulated tabs.

I want to try to tackle updating the version of Flash that is included, but that requires modifying the binary.

Moreover, there is a lot of source material that is commented out or commented "FIXME" and "Fix for Final version". One interesting item is that they originally intended for the up and down keys to act as shift. I personally think holding the B button would work better.

I'll send you the main archive. Expect a PM, since it's copyrighted material.

how did you get your hands on internet channel source?

A majority of Opera on the Wii is based around CSS and JS. The rest(Flash, HTML rendering engine, JS engine, etc) is packaged into a Wii binary, which is executed like any other.

A lot can be done just by unpacking the WAD and 0000002.app.

Interesting I do like The idea of adding some worthwhile functionality to this tool. So far it has the potential to be a great browser but like so many things that nintendo has there hands in has fallen quite short of it.

Anyone can grab the contents (encrypted) from NUS with NUS Downloader. I'll be adding decryption sometime soon, so that would make it a one step process.

The TitleID of the Internet Channel is 00010001-484144xx.

For US: 0001000148414445
For EU: 0001000148414450
For JP: 000100014841444A

So, let me get this straight... as long as you have the Title ID, it can be downloaded from NUS for free?

What makes it different from any other WiiWare or VC?

I'm not entirely sure why, but it only has a standard ticket, not a generated one like VC/WiiWare. Their loss I guess.

Weird.

Anyway, I'm addressing the tabs issue, simply by reworking the JS from Wiitabs.com into the Opera start page. So, hopefully, it won't take me long to have a working build.

Interesting project you have going here i would love to help but i can't code barely starting out on basic

but if you need a tester i will be more than willing to help.

add a feature where you can download files to an SD card. My internet was out today and I need some drivers for my computer. My Wii can pick up wireless signals that aren't mine, it would've been great to be able to download a file to my SD card on my Wii and then transfer it to my PC.

this sounds great
the internet channel needs tabs and new flash.
if this can be done it would be awesome
i would also love to be a tester for this

All good ideas.

Just keep in mind the limitations we're working with right now.

It would be better to work from the ground up and port over a browser, but that's not a project I'm willing to take on quite yet.

Ideally, the Miight team will get WiFi drivers for Linux working soon, allowing you to run Firefox natively.

Is it's ticket the same as, say, the Nintendo Channel? Maybe they never changed it at all from when it used to be available for free.

Anyway, this is a great idea that you have. Good luck with it!
