if you create the param.sfo and change the app version for a game update, you need to build the update manually by using the base pkg, otherwise it will change the master version instead, even if you've changed the app version. kinda hard to explain, but it's really not that difficult to do. you'll get a warning about there being no change log xml, but it's not needed for a fake update.

So if I own the game can I then extract the pkg-file? Is the code then automatically listed in PUBCHK?

If you own the game, you can dump the decrypted game (if you’re on 5.05-9.00 and depending on the games firmware requirements), and repack as a FPKG.

You cannot dump a game that requires higher firmware than you have on your console, even with a spoof. For example if you try to dump a 9.00 game disc on a 5.05 console: impossible.

If you have a 7.xx game disc with an 8.xx update applied, and try dump them on 9.00: that will work.

Pubchk shows data for files in a pkg, what do you need to know?

I once tried extracting a official game update (pkg-file format) of gran turismo sport which I got from orbispatches. I then realised that I can´t extract it because of the 32-digit code.
I am looking to buy Assetto Corsa Competizione and install the latest update 1.12 (which is for 8.50) and want to make a fpkg-file out of the update. I am on 9.00 btw.

Even if you extracted a pkg contents on PC, with the correct passcode, it will not be decrypted. This is the key difference.

You cannot convert a retail update (orbispatches) to a fake package update, without decryption.

You would need to own the game disc, install it on your 9.00 console, apply that (8.50) latest update from orbispatches, then run exploit and dump together, then FPKG them for use.

To apply the latest update I use patch installer, do I? To download it I need to temporarily allow connection to the sony servers I assume? Is this dangerous to my exploit on FW 9.00?

Iirc, yes, so it's better just to download the updates manually unless you want to take that risk.

So you mean downloading the .pkg patch file from orbis patches on my computer and install it manually via USB-stick on my PS4? is this possible when goldhen is running? Or how do I do this? Or isn´t it possible at all?

As you may know, there's the Orbis Patches' app option, but this requires to disable the DNS that blocks Sony updates so it feels risky to go down this path, imo.

I personally avoid that one.

Yes, I will procure the patch-pkg on my computer and put it on a usb drive and isntall it normally via goldhen. Disabling DNS is too risky if there is also this method available. Thanks for helping out!

There is a method where you download updates by using an external HDD. I can't remember how that works.

@godreborn, would you be able to explain how that works? Sorry to ask, I know you get a ton of questions from a certain user as it is. 😕

So installing the official update via goldhen after having downloaded it externally from orbispatches and having merged the pkg worked flawlessly.
Dumping the game and the patch with game dumper payload from the karo host kinda worked, but I forgot to disable the auto-sleep-mode of the PS4 after 20 minutes....that is why on my USB stick there was the "dumping"-txt-file and not the "completed"-txt-file. So dumping was not completed because the PS4 turned into sleep mode. Will try this today with automatic sleep mode disabled.
As always I used the comprehensive tutorial from modded warfare:

So I managed to dump Assetto Corsa Competizione with the newest patch 1.12, took quite long (4-5 hours). Perhaps my USB stick was slow...
Can someone tell me if I can add the resolution patch from illusion 0001
https://illusion0001.com/_patch/AssettoCorsaCompetizione-Orbis/
to my fpkg although it is only listed for version 1.0?

EDIT: it does not work. I get the error "CE 34878-0" when applying the 720p to the 1.12 patch...

Well of course it won’t work. The update requirements are listed for a reason. All of them are mods on the eboot.bin in the update file. The eboot for 1.12 is different so it will crash
