Hi,

Decided to dust off my wii-u and a couple of HDDs I had with vwii and wii-u games on. I plugged in , what I think is my wbfs drive, in my PC and it asked me to initialise it. Being a bit of an idiot , I agreed. Now, the disk is viewable but shows as 'unallocated'.
I'm running a partition recovery scan now to see what is on the drive and what I can recover. Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks

Is this HDD formatted with wbfs (vwii) or wiiU format?
I'm not entirely sure as I had two. One will be wbfs I guess and the other is for Wii games - whatever format that may be. Have tried both drives in PC now - one which I stupidly initialized and another which I haven't . Unitialized disk is not recognised by wiibackup manager and WiiBaFu, I guess as has no drive letter.

Okay. Used HxD and can see from sector 64 I have a wbfs partition which contains wii games. This is the disk I did not initialize. So the other disk which I did, must be my wii-u games.

Why don't you try your "good" HDD on the wiiU and put a label on it to mark it wiiu or vwii ?

For the "bad" disk, sorry, but you need yo install your games again.

Yes, have done that. Took my a while to work out how to get into wii mode.

hook-and-loop fastener to attach/detach the HDDs to the console's case:

worked out why my vwii drive wasn't showing - ustealth! All visible now.
Just the issue of my wiiu drive being borked

you mean a case that holds both HDDs and provides a switch which HDD is powered?

hypothetically, it's recoverable by injecting the first sector of a formatted hdd, but I don't know if the seeprom will pose a problem.

Keep save data backups with homebrew in case of catastrophic device failure, or user imbecility. Never bad advice.
