I'm looking into getting a PSP.

I want one mainly for emulating.

Is this worth it, this late in it's lifetime?
Is there a better alternitive for emulation?

Is the PSX and N64 emulation worth it?

How hard is it to 'hack' a psp to a useable state?

If I were to get one, wichita model should I get? Where?

Thank you!

If the psp is being used for emulation, then I guess it's worth it, but maybe you should get a pandora. It's supposedly looking good, and the psx and n64 emulators are being worked on.
psp's are very easy to hack though, and I would get a psp 1000 or 2000. 64 emulation is horrible on the psp, psx works okay.

edit: although you may never know when you get a pandora, so beware

Well, First of all Which PSP are you going to buy?
PSP 1000 or 'FAT/Original'
PSP 2000 or 'Slim'
PSP 3000 or 'Brite'
PSP GO
That was one of my questions.
I was thinking the 1000, because I have large hands, and I figured that that would be more easy to hold.
Posibly the 3000, but how much brighter IS it?

I would love the go, but isn't it not hackable?

Does the n64 emu work enough to play?

The N64 Emulation is not that great... most games will lag with sound or just glitch up.
The PSP 1000 is the cheapest and most hackable out of all PSPs.
If you get a PSP 3000 new, it won't be 'hackable' since there is no firmware available for it.
I think your best option would be to get a PSP 1000, but only use it for PSX emulation.

Edit: Also the Lighting of the PSP 1000 isn't all that bad.

I have a 1000 and it works fine for emulation. Got it really cheap on Craigslist too.

Is there a better alternitive for emulation? - Portable? Not really.

Is the PSX and N64 emulation worth it? - PSX is already part of the PSP, so it works perfectly if you run Popsloader. The N64, not so much, I got barely 5 FPS in Majora's Mask.

How hard is it to 'hack' a psp to a useable state? - Depending on the PSP. Get an already hacked one, preferably a 2k with perm CFW.

If I were to get one, wichita model should I get? Where? - As just said, 2k with perm CFW, try this forum's Buy/Sell section

1k if you want to have a 100% chance of it being hackable
2k if you want the higher ram but less chance of it being hackable (if it has that other motherboard)
3k skype? lol

Well, I found out that my sister has a 2001 PSP that she didn't want anymore.
It's in fairly good shape too.

I have it on the 5.03 OFW, and am trying to get chickhen or the m3 working.
I've tried about 100 times but it just freezes.

Does the type of memory card effect the process at all?
I am using a MagicGate 1gb, that says SONY at the top.

Thanks.

I have been siting here, watching E3 and continuously trying this since my last post.

Is there anything I'm missing?

The best way to make Chickhen work is by restoring the PSP to default by going to System Settings > Restore Factory(?)/Default Settings. Don't change the name, language, date it suggests. Just agree to everything it says. After restoring, try activating the chickhen.

Oh! Wallpaper and background should be the original too! not classic!

I JUST got it to work!!!!!
I had to restore, turn of UMD autostart, and autocash, and have the wifi on.
