Apple if I sync my ipod to itunes...

will my other songs be overwritten/erased?
i wouldnt like that to happen since my dad bought original albums of 80-90's rock like The Cure, Pink floyd, U2, etc.

I'd like to sync it so i could transfer my itunes songs to the ipod video.
sorry, it's my first time managing an ipod.

If the PC you're syncing the iPod doesn't contain the songs, unfortunately yes they will be erased.
I just like, don't get apple. Why can't they simply make it a matter of drag and drop or something? ...

Set 'Manually Manage Music and Video' to on and disable 'Auto Sync'. Then you can pretty much drag and drop.

Couldn't you just find the files and move them and then afterwards move them back.

For iPod touch
If you're jailbroken, SSH to your music folder and copy everything. ID3 tags should still be there so when you drag it to iTunes, you should be able to see proper names.
If not, all you'll see is a 4 letter combination

For regular iPod
Just find that enable disk use option and drag all the files to your HD
