Hacking Ideal Burning Speed For Games

Hello everyone, Like the title says, what would be the best? and I've heard 2x can damage the wii laser, and other rumors. Most say the ideal is to burn at 4x and others say to burn at half your medias max. Which in my case my Maxell DVD-R 16x, I should burn at 8x. But really whats possibly the best one. Because i don't wanna risk damaging my wii laser. Whats myth and fact?

Listen and listen good: Burning at a slow speed cannot damage your Wii's laser.

no burning at 2x damages the wii laser, search through gbatemp, youll find people that did tests, the best way to burn is half of what media max is, but definetly do more than 4x except for dvd-r dl, and dont use crappy media like memorex, or maxell or whatever, stick to verbatim,m ridata g05, or toi yawl or whateve its called, i use verbatim dvd-r, always burn at 16x, and after 300+ games, not a single coaster, not a single error in game, tho i also use modchip...all in all, dont burn at slow pace, it damages the wii laser

Honestly, I've burned 10 games and no issues if, I burn with either 4x or 8x Im using Verbatim DVD-R's but still I recommend burning in between 4x and half the disk write speed, too slow of a burn can also cause a lot of games to be slow and unresponsive.

I've burned Call OF Duty WaW at 2x speed and the only issue i have is the voices sometimes being cutoff, but not all the time. So I guess i should burn another copy at 4x or maybe 8x?

1. depends on the media
2. depends on the type of DVD Burner (+ or -)
3.Depends on the Wii's initial pot setting....

So in short trial and error... when you find what works best for you do it....
Personally my Wii wont read discs burnt over 2.4x... so go figure....

I agree. With my LG writer, 4x or 8x was ok for DVD-R. On my Pioneer writer, when writing at 8x or higher, there would be some obvious read problems for some games (choppiness in videos or gameplay). I haven't tested DVD+Rs much, but I know that my Pioneer DVDWriter reads them much faster than DVD-Rs. This may not necessarily be true for the Wii.

Somebody should release a read test homebrew app

all the games i have burned, i burned at 6x under Linux with Brasero Disc burner with a "HP dvd 1040i" burner they all run smoothly with no noticeable slowdown.
i use memorex dvd-r media and haven't gotten a coaster(

people have all these theories about y people get bad burns and the like
at the end of the day its all luck of the draw
the best speed varies from burner to burner
going out and buying expensive dvd-r's isnt always going to solve you problem
infact even the cheapest A$19.99 for 100 pack of dvd+r's will work fine for most people
a newer burner seems to give less errors than an older one
also good software to use is ultraISO its cheap, and you dont have to worry about the booktype stuff on dvd+r's and i have had no problems with burning disc's at any speed

good thing 6x isn't slow(mid speed).

Ive burned tons of games at 2x with imgburn and have never had slowdown or any other issues.


And I really mean tons of games!

read the thread he posted carefully the whole point of it was this
Test your media and drive at the different speeds verifying them and checking them for errors, whichever speed has the fewest errors is the best speed for your system with that media.

Your burning speed does not affect the wii laser in any way. If anything is going to "kill" the laser it would be adjusting it to work outside of specs in order to read discs it isnt meant to. The wii drive is a DVD drive. Nintendo left the dvd command in because they were originally going to have a dvd player, but went with the "wii format" to avoid paying royalties. When a disc is read its read speed is detirmined by the firmware, hardware capabilities and media integrity. A bad burn (lots of errors) will cause the wii laser to do more work re-reading sections of disk, which does lead to more wear and tear over time.

I use cheap datawrite discs and burn at 8x.

I actually got a timer and timed how long it took certain games to load.

With Day of crisis, burning at 8x loaded faster then a 2.4x.

But with brawl, the 4x for some reason was faster then all of them.

I use Verbatim DVD+R (16x's) and i burn them at 2x, never once had a problem with any game.

People just don't take the time to read anymore....
So let me say it again....

It's different for everyone...
Not everyone has the same burner, software, computer/hardware/os, Wii console, pot settings, Wind speed vectors, temperatures, Doctorates, and so on and so forth....

So what it really comes down to is... Google around and Try some stuff...
And find out whats best for you and your Wii...
