this is just harsh... i mean he proved he was born and still got sent to jail cause of this florida law that was made. a messed up world we live in now.

It wasn't just because Florida made that law. ICE is a federal agency, I'm pretty sure they could simply hold the guy and ask for an id. He was driving after all.

But they choose not to. Which is pretty convenient.

Yeesh, and he's from Georgia. Not like MTG will be angry that her constituent being held for no reason. Americans really have chosen the worst of the worst to represent themselves.

There goes -away- US citizen's freedom to walk/travel across your own country.

What's next?

Hope that thread on GBATemp counting and enlisting Trumpet's stup!d!t!es can keep up with him.

Suspected illegal immigrant
They detain him
He's not an illegal
They release him.

What's the problem?

Detaining people when they've committed no crime. Propa land of the free. Certainly not a thing which happens in tolitarian states.
This is literally the point of detention. It's to further investigate potential crime. If they find you have commited a crime you get charged.
If they find you haven't you get released.

Are you stupid?

For starters, the draconian state law used to detain him was not supposed to be enforced at this time, it was suspended pending review by a higher court (because it's likely unconstitutional). Then on top of that, the judge did not order his immediate release even after he presented his US birth certificate.

It makes your agenda pretty obvious when you're quick to assume the worst of an average citizen, yet completely deaf and blind to the rampant criminality being perpetuated by the Trump administration and ICE.

So had this local chic on IG post an earlier story like this, i told her just hold ya passport and ya good. She went, "well, do YOU have YOURS on you?"

I replied with ^, and whether she does hers. Her reply, "I don't have nor passport nor a greencard."

XD

And that's why you do NOT pull over for unmarked cars or cars marked with a jurisdiction other than your local, and dial 911 while driving to inquire if it IS one of the locals trying to pull you over or not.......c'mon people, like this kinda shit in this nation is some sort of magical or new procedure.....

The problem is that this ignores Constitutional rights and due legal process, which would be fairly obvious as long as one knows anything about how the law works.

Usually when people are unlawfully detained, there's enough grounds for them to sue the department that detained them and they usually win with a hefty settlement.

I'd recommend reading the Fourth Amendment to learn more.

And that part is fully fucked, no doubt, but at the same time - it's not like a sure-fire way of carrying your birth cert/copy/passport is some mystical spell that no one has EVER fathomed.

Kinda of topic but its always surprising to me that USA citizens don't have an standard ID card.

Here in the EU we all have a standard ID and we are supposed to carry it whit us all the time. Especially if we travel inside the EU space, either by plane or car, etc...

And good luck boarding a plane without one here.

Anyway, ID or not, that arrest is just wrong.

You gotta realize than literally 90% of US pop doesn't even know wtf a pLaNe is nor what one looks like. They at best may know a crop duster aka Cessna.

In the US you aren't legally required to have an ID on your person in most situations.
Correct, HOWEVER, when you know there are dire times and there are VERY simple solutions, and you choose to be ignoranus believing in our "law" wholeheartedly...

Like, cops PLANT drugs into traffic stopped vehicles willy nilly....

This is only the case if there was no probable cause. They thought there was, though it turned out not to be true.
