I have a choice between a PS3 or 360...

PS3 has greater longevity in my opinion, which means that it has a greater chance of having both, hit (exclusive) releases, and also sleeper-hit releases. The ability to play PS1 games, as well, as possibly PS2 games is a great addition as well, (I'd definitely go for one of these used consoles since it widens the library tremendously) and also allows you to save some money playing older games that are far more optimized for the previous systems =).

The choice is:

X360 for free games but lots of noise and being afraid of a RRoD

or

PS3 for a more robust and silent console, with increasingly better exclusive games. But no backups, so it will be a lot more expensive to you.

I have both consoles. First I got a X360 at launch. It RRoD', so I got a PS3. Now I got a jtag'ed X360. The noise is really annoying, I was acostumed to PS3's near silence. BUt now I can just fill an external usb drive with games and have dozens/hundreds of games at my disposal.

ps3 vs xbox I would chose ps3 the new motion controls make fps's playable unlike a controller and the probably overpriced natal won't change that.

I am a real pc gamer so I would always recommend a self build gaming pc above everything.

You accidentally put this PS3 con into the 360 con section.
360 has one of the best controllers ever created. It's like it was molded for a gamers hands. Not to mention it's near indestructible. I've had a 360 for many, many years...and have only had 1 controller go wonky because I used it for guitar hero and absolutely RAPED the triggers/bumpers.

Unlike the PS3 controller which was fine back when it was for the PS1, but now it's getting to feel incredibly dated and terrible.

The reason I hate the 360 pad is because A) the analogue sticks not being symmetrical F's me up, B) They are by no means indestructible, C) The play and charge kits overheat. It just doesn't work for me. Obviously opinions will differ, I'm merely giving my own. As for the PS3 pad being old, ever heard of the phrase 'if it aint broke dont fix it'?

Although I should add to the PS3 cons section that the upcoming PS Move looks like pair of glowing sex toys. And to the 360's cons that Natal's 'Milo' has wierdly paedophilic overtures.

also if you are used to Nintendo the positioning of a, b, x and y will be a total mind fuck for a while Nintendo has B right B down X up and Y left but the 360 has A, B and X, Y flipped
and if it feels good is just a matter of personal opinion for example I find the gamecube controller the most comfortable controller ever and after that the wii classic controller pro.

Blaze awesome post, one partial correction though. Stuff like Mass Effect, Gears, and a few others 360 fans like to tout as 'exclusive' aren't. Sure they're 'console' exclusive, but the fact remains a PC version exists which blows it away if you got some decent end hardware to back it up with.


I'm with you too on the suckage of the 360 pad. The wacked out of place analogs just mess me up, and also just the buttons I believe are lettered reverse of Nintendo so I get them messed in the same way I did get(sold it due to that too) to shoot my way into a hole in Mega Man ont he Mega Man Collection -- some stuff you just can't mentally reprogram after nearly 20years.


And anyone in general a great distinction in your console purchase is simple and I'll put it crude and blunt.

Are you a fucking thief? Get a 360.
Do you buy games? Get a PS3.

Simple as that because if you don't feel the need to buy games, all the perks of solid hardware, blu ray movies, free online, and the rest of the PS3 just won't matter. But, if you do buy games, the 360 has no true huge advantages and while people say it's cheaper, when you got to drop $100USD on a wifi adapter to even it in playing field to the PS3 for connectivity it's not.

Both are good consoles and I doubt you'd regret buying one or the other.

I was originally intending on buying a PS3 but I wound up with a 360 (in the end, even with Live subscription and everything, it was cheaper than a PS3) and I don't regret it. Paying for Live is a bit bitchy but it's not that bad. It's a lot less than your average monthly payment for a MMORPG. But Live is a lot of fun and it's great to connect with friends.

Whatever you buy, it's a win-win.

PSN is always going to be free , there's just a premium service which gives you better stuff but you need to pay for

For me im going with a ps3 im in the same boat as you but i prefer the ps3 over 360 anyday since most of my friends have it and it easier to play online with them
it should just come down to what games are you most interested in the console

Well, thanks once again for everyone's suggestions. Just to let you guys know, I have a DS, Wii, PS2, and PSP.

I do enjoy playing online, but it's not really that important of a factor.

Also, does anyone see a price drop on either console in the near future?

Even though I have a 360 and wii, I would say go for the ps3. It has such great exclusives and free online and the controllers are actually rechargable!

No it's not. It's an optional pay plan is all. With it you can get cross game voice chat, free 1hr demos of full complete games on download, discounts in the PSN etc stores, and some other fluff. And that's it, it's fluff, and you're going to lose no functionality of your online gaming that you have right now. Personally I think greedy MS needs to go this route as well on their system as it's not right charging people extra money so they can fully use their game while PS3 users 100% get what they pay for w/out added fees.

The current PNS system will remain as is, and free. The Paid Subscription PSN will be regular PSN + offers some new premiums/exclusives.

You get a giant information site with everything you need for free while they have a subscription you pay for and get some extra perks. By no means does the Premium PSN mean that you can't Uncharted online for free anymore. It just means you're going to miss out on a few bonuses that you don't even realize you might want or not.
