Hacking i cant dump games onto usb

so basically i cant dump things onto usb (using cleanrip wiiflow or usbloadergx), not only this usb loader gx freezes when trying to load the usb. sd works perfectly fine for dumping but usb doesnt. any suggestions?

i also get "ES_AddTitleStart returned: -2005" when trying to install cIOS 236 instead, ive tried 53-alt with 249 / 56 and 52 with 250 / 57 and those wouldnt work either, the IOS58 installer also fails, i have a Mario 25th Anniversary Wii, is this a hardware revision or something? im really confused

well, i ripped from disc to sd with cleanrip, combined files on windows, converted to wbfs using wii backup manager and put it on the usb and it shows up :/ i wonder why wii isnt able to write to usb tho :/

Based on my memory some homebrew may have issues writing to to the usb HDD if it is not formatted in Fat32 but would sometimes still read if it was ntfs... so maybe try that. Also My wii's were somewhat picky when it came to what HDD or enclosure I was using.

its formatted fat32, and its not a chinese knockoff, it can be read fine but nothing wants to write to it (minus my pc) its a lexar.

dont use thumb drives, they suck for use on the wii, hdd's are easy to come by, and are very cheep, 160gb hdd for like 16 bucks

im using a usb and it works perfectly the wii just refuses to write to them, using a hdd does not help the issue. any help?

***usb*** and lexar, kingston, and sandisk all with the same issue (sandisk is a 3.0 lexar is a 2.0 and kingston idk) it works in the other wii so its not a problem with the hard drive.

i said it was not an issue with the flash drive, it works fine with the other wii. and its the same result with hdd.

i changed it to load ios58 and reload to cios249 and it seemed to fix the issue .-. i read somewhere apparently some usb devices wont write with the d2x thing, must've set it up like this on the old wii too. anyways problem fixed

you can't say "it works perfectly" because that's your problem, you told yourself it's not working like you expect !
Flash drives (don't call them ***usb***) can't write !
use a Hard drive device (also ***usb***) and it will fix your problem.

well i already got them dumped for wii now, what kind of hdd would you reccommend?

As you are currently using a small flashdrive I suppose you don't need a lot of space.
for the Wii, you can use a small USB2.0 hard drive, like seagate or western digital 250GB or 320GB.
these drives are self powered and working fine on Wii.
Bigger drives 1TB+ are usually externally powered.

On Wiiu, the console doesn't provide enough power from the USB port and most self powered HDD (powered through USB) need a y-cable to get enough power by connecting to 2 USB ports at the same time.
another solution is to use an externally powered HDD.

I don't have any specific model to recommend, I don't know enough. Maybe someone else could help you.
If you try a drive which is not detected, don't worry. Most new HDD have that issue with USBLoaders and/or WiiU, there is a specific setup to fix that, but we don't need to talk about that yet.

...Sorry to bother you, Cyan, but if it is as you say, could you explain me how I've been able to dump my Wii and GC Games using a Toshiba 16 GB Flash Drive and CleanRip, and I've been able to play Wii and GC games for years without any issue besides one game going to black screen in a very especific little thing (and getting fixed by changing the format to NTFS, something you actually told me when helping me time ago!) also on flash drives?

I mean, I completely understand that cheap badly made flash drives would give problems (hell, I bought one that couldn't even recognize my computer and made it all laggy trying to work with it), but I've been reading "DON'T USE FLASH DRIVES" almost as long as I've been using them and I just don't get it; because I've really never experienced bad things... Except when I unconciously put the usb on Slot 1. That was confusing, lol.

I've even dumped and played double-layered dvd games like Smash Brawl, Xenoblade or Metroid Prime Trilogy, which I guess would be a harder and more delicate matter, and everything went fine. Although of course, I use drives from supposedly good brands, like the aforementioned Toshiba or Kingston.

Is it to avoid people getting awful quality ones?

It's the way flash drives work that are the problem, not the quality of them. They do not operate the same way as a physical HDD.

I guess you are lucky to have a working flash drive then.
Most users who have freeze issue when dumping it's due to using flash over hdd.
I don't really know why flash are not working correctly with the wii/wiiu/homebrew, I didn't create the usb/filesystem library, but there's definitely something wrong with the drivers or hardware.

apparently, not all flash drives are affected, but unfortunately MarioMasta64's drive is.

When we suggest users to not use flashdrive it's to prevent having this freeze issue one day, and because we don't know how to fix it. the only solution available is either try and use a working flash drive (no idea how hard it will be), or use a hdd.
