Actually I couldn't have gotten a kindle for the $200 that my parents paid for the Sony Reader at Wal-Mart. (I guess this is one of the first models of the Sony Reader.

Pay 50 more bucks and you could have gotten a vastly superior unit.

I still stand by my beliefs that they are a waste of money and a fad

Ok? I enjoy having multiple books on a device at once, not to mention the lack of heavy books, having pages fall on your hands while reading, etc. This is the future. Get on board.

I believe they are a waste of money simply because the netbook exists
and are a much better value for a few more $$

Yes, because I love reading books on LCD. Eink is a world of difference. It is literally like reading paper. It's impossible to read 800 page books on a fucking monitor without killing your eyes.

LOL, you're not even joking too, because the only thing the netbook will do is fry your eyes out. I remember when I went to Best Buy to get a nice netbook, but the retarded salesmen kept saying it will hurt my eyes, and were directing me to the really, REALLY expensive laptops that are as big as German Shepards. I just got pissed and left!

Netbooks are hard to use irc on, let alone reading a book on. The netbook fans need to stop preaching.

For anyone actually considering buying one, far superior hardware and out Feb 22nd for 400USD.

The other relevant fact is that Pixel Qi's transflective screens will be in consumer product by year's end, which makes these e-ink displays completely obsolete. Hopefully the loss won't be too bad ebaying current readers when that happens.
