I'm just wondering how close we are to having nkit backup loaders available on actual hardware.

If I'm not mistaken, Nintendont has support for nkit, so the GC side is covered.

NKit is image type? Why use another kind of standard? We have wbfs filesystem. Iso file (shrinked or not) .wbfs file and extracted (for my opinion better for speed loading not?) If i say something wrong...

It is very unlikely (if not potentially impossible due to memory limitations) for a CIOS to support doing software ODE supporting NKit images - it's just different enough from the retail Wii DVD format

If anything we're waiting for NKit 1.5 which will offer WBFS-compatible formats and conversions :)

so, i m new ro this nkit format, i got tomb raider wii, concerted it to iso using their 4gb app, now it runs on dolphin, and on wii flow i get the chanel and sounds, this means it can access the wbfs file somehow, but launching the game i get nothing,
    any help ?

nkit compresses the file, so for it to be supported properly, it will need an additional CPU to be used to decompress the block of data before it can be loaded into memory. The reason it can be used for GC games is because GC games don't require as much processing power as Wii games on the actual Wii. This means that Wii games will take longer most likely take longer to load than reading from the actual disc. Compressed Wii game data won't run on the actual hardware. Compressed GC games will only because their system requirements are significantly less than Wii games, meaning more free memory and CPU time for decompressing.

If the game is untrimmed, which is most likely if you converted them back from nkit, then they can't be copied onto the SD because the games would be at least 4.7 GBs big, and the SD card has to be formatted to FAT32 to work. FAT32 has a file size limit of 4GBs, so the Wii games you are copying on are getting trimmed down and losing 0.7GBs of data, which may not be empty space. Trust me, you do NOT want to trim your isos, period.

You will either have to convert them to wbfs format and split by 2GBs big to install onto the SD, or the better option is to copy them onto a USB drive instead, which allows for more options. I recommend you get a copy of WBFS Manager to help with managing and copying the games over.

That is not even close to being true. Nintendont allows the use of NKit with GC games on Wii hardware. A similar solution for Wii gams would require an updated cIOS to handle the format and nothing more. The Wii absolutely has enough processing power to read NKit for Wii games, but no one on the scene now has the programming ability to write custom cIOS's anymore, so it won't happen.

Your right. I got it mixed up with RVZ, and even then I think I might be wrong. I simply implied that it might not be compatible because they state in their forum thread that having at least two cores will make it run with no performance impact, which is what implied it would need an extra core just to handle the decompression.

I did recover the game from nkit to iso, then converted it to wbfs using wiibackup manager, copied fine to the sd, all games are running except for tomb raider the only one i got as nkit.iso

It may not have been a clean dump of the game, or you will have to use a USB drive instead. When you convert it from nkit to iso, look at the checksums, and see if you can compare them to known good dumps, called Redumps. If you can't find it anywhere, post the checksums in here and someone can take a look at them. MD5, SHA1, and CRC32 are the ones we look at.

If these are clean dumps, then you would best to get a USB drive and run them from that instead. It may be having trouble running on the SD due to various reasons, such as read speeds being different, or the SD is showing signs of failure. There's no real way to tell, but just remember that the backup loaders were meant to be used to run games off of a USB drive, so are more optimized to run off of that instead of on an SD.

Were you getting errors about needing to format the USB HDD to be compatible with the Wii U? If so, you would have to run UStealth on the drive, on PC, to get around that.

I see. I assume you tried either port? Is the USB using independent power or using a Y cable?
