A basic guide for anyone who wants to avoid having to update channels. Forwarders load the relevant "boot.dol" from the apps directory on your SD card.

Download 'Forwarding_Channels' from the link below:

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zudtf4yqwtq

You will then have an archive containing:

dol_forwarders/
dol_forwarder_genplus.dol
dol_forwarder_pcengine.dol
dol_forwarder_Snes9xGX.dol

and

WADChannelsUpdater/
WAD Channels Upater.exe
README.txt

Copy the wad you to want to replace with a forwarder for in the WADChannelsUpdater directory. Copy the dol_forwarder[...].dol into the same directory.

Run WAD Channels Updater.exe
Select the wad channel that you copied
Select the dol forwarder that you copied
Give the new channel a title
Click update
Find a new channel named "updated.wad" in same directory
Rename updated.wad to something more descriptive
Install channel

*******************************************

More dol forwarders can be found on SpaceJumps page here.

Many thanks to SpaceJump for creating these forwarders.
Many thanks to Red Squirrel for WAD Channels Updater.

Eddie: sorry, don't know about making banners.

SpaceJump: I would have linked to that thread but there are no links to the emulators, only the multi launcher which isn't SDHC compatible.

Any chance of adding the emulator forwarders to your thread?

Also, could you provide a hugo-gx forwarder?

Cheers

Great Guide! Thanks for the write-up.

How does one go about doing a custom banner for the newly created channel?

wouldnt it remain the same as the old one and just 'forward' the .dol? i mean, it'd just replace the older dol with the new one and leave everything else the same.

unless i'm wrong XD i dont even know what forwarding a dol means lol

That's exactly how I understand them to work mikey. You just take an existing wad and the only thing that changes is the .dol

Kedest, have you tried the USB Loader Forwarder boot.dol I posted here: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=148...0&start=120 where I described how to do use this very same method for USB loaders!

The others I found either crashed or wouldn't work with the nunchuck plugged in...

So either grab this or get yourself a copy of the HD Forwarder linked on the wiki... then get a copy of wadder and unpack the WAD...

You then simply rename the 00000001.app to boot.dol and you've got the same file.

Yeah thanks, I tried that. But that dol does not work as autobooting dol in preloader.
Preloader is very picky about the dols it can run. So I'm looking for a forwarder dol that is compatible.

Kedest, silly question...but rather than use a forwarder have you used the USB Loader 1.1 boot.dol?

That could be a solution indeed, although I do think some of the custom loaders won't work that way.
But I really prefer a forwarder solution, that would make updating easier.
