ROM Hack How to make a patch?

I've just decided to make my hack of Pokemon Diamond, Dark Diamond, available to some beta testers who I haven't chosen yet.
But I still don't know how to make a patch from my game.
Am I right in saying that I can't make it a .ips patch?
