Hacking How to flash...

My friend recently bought a DSi, and he has a R4i from www.r4ultra.com.

In the box, he had an R4i, and nothing else. We are highly confused on how to flash it. I thought it needed a cable, but other carts only need a DS Lite.

So does anyone know how to flash this card for DSi Firmware v1.4.1U?

You have to use an older DS to run update software (a .nds file) on the cart itself. Your cart is an Acekard clone. Check to see if the Acekard update will run on it.

go to the attached link and download
R4i update fw for DS 1.41
and put that on ur r4ultra and stick it into a ds lite/ds/dsi>1.4.1
and run the update to flash it to work with dsi 1.4.1

As kiafazool said, you'll need to apply the 1.4.1 update to allow the R4i to continue working on the DSi. The 1.4.1 firmware update blocked nearly every flash cart on the market when it got released causing many DSi flash carts to become completely obsolete.

You will have to take the steps in the following order:

1. Download the "R4i update fw for DS 1.41"
2. Place it on the MicroSD card.
3. Put the R4i into a DS Phat, DSlite, or DSi with a firmware lower than 1.4.1
4. Run the update on that DS.
5. Once successful it should work 100% in any DSi model regardless of firmware (until the next update anyways).

Don't forget to update with the latest firmware after. The latest will be "AKAIO 1.81 for R4i" located on the same download page as the 1.4.1 update.
