ROM Hack How to edit an NPC in ACNL?

I want to edit Shrunk's face in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and would like advice on how to do such. I've never done anything with 3DS hacking before now, any help is appreciated, thanks!

Maybe you could try to extract the save and find the textures in a different program, but that was what I did for ACCF, and it may not work for you.
