How good is your hearing?

Ever heard of the Mosquito Ringtone? Its a ring tone only children and young adults can hear. As people grow older, their ability to hear higher pitched sounds diminish. How these ring tones work is by creating a steady, high pich noise which only younger folks can hear. Its great at schoo and so on when you don't want to tip off the teacher, parents or anyone else that you have a phone call or text message and such.

At any rate, I found a website that offer these ring tones as a free download for various age groups.

14khz 49 & Younger
15khz 39 & Younger

17khz 24 & Younger
17.4khz 24 & Younger
18khz 24 & Younger

Now the point of this topic is to listen to these sound files and see what the highest pitch (khz) you can hear and post the results here. You may need decent speakers/headphones to be able to play such high pitch noises.

Some shops play them outside in the evenings to stop chavs liotering around.
Oh and the last thing my phone did before dieing was to play this sound, not saying it was the cause but... >_>

The cringing is actually a normal response when a person hears a very high pitch noise. It even makes me cringe at times.

I know I can hear 20-21 KHz, but internal laptop speakers can't play it.

I came into this topic thinking it was something else, I have perfect pitch.

Did you know you can lose your hearing if you listen to loud music with a headphone/headset/ipod on more then 6 hours per days. you won't notice your hearing go weaker and you'll start talking loud!

I wasn't able to hear the ones for 18. My 4 and 2 year old brothers could hear all but the last one for 18. (22khz)

I would highly suggest that if anyone were to try this, that the download the file and play various versions around your teachers and parents first to see if this really works on the people you'd be wanting to pull wool over their eyes--uh, ears.

but i do play loud music on my ipod so i guess that's why my hearing is bad.

With my speakers as loud as they go, I can hear all of them. 20KHz was the hardest though for some reason.

I'm 23 and i couldnt hear the last one at first, but when i played the list from the top down i could. I guess you have to know what to listen for.

I could hear all of them and I'm 25 years old...
I usually hear things in a very low volume so this may help a little but I think the key thing is the volume...
I could hear them easily using my headphone... But using the monitor speaker I had to turn the volume up a little bit and I could hear the last one... Thats is somewhat strange ...
Like someone said .. maybe the speaker influenced more than expected the results to each of us...

I can barely hear 18 and I'm 19. Too much mp3 for me.. I don't like playing my mp3 loud though.
