Without that Instant Boot, essentially wouldn't you just click start and hit Hibernate? On any computer running Vista that seems like the wise thing to do as hibernation uses little to no power. Upon returning from hibernation, you skip fully loading Windows, programs, etc, so would that not make "shutdown" and "boot" times a lot shorter? I guess it would really depend on your hard drive's speed as hibernation saves everything in the RAM on your hard drive and then almost completely powers down. I don't know what mine is, but I'm guessing around 5400 RPM. I'll test hibernation and get back to you all.
i have a laptop, and i don't like the idea of leavin it on hibernation all the time :S

Hibernation shortened my "shutdown" time to 1/3 of what it was. The "boot" time is approximately 3 seconds. And don't worry, da_head, hibernation will not harm your laptop in any way. You can take my word for this; I've been working with computers since I was 2 years old (I'm 17 now) and this stuff is my specialty.

You won't be disappointed.

As long as you can handle the power light on your laptop flashing slowly (or however it flashes when you put your laptop in standby) then you won't have any problems.

ERROR question does not COMPUTE!

reason ... I don't turn mine off its on almost 24/7 365 days a year ....I just reboot it now and then

Only reason for me to do a full shut down would be to replace faulty hardware or add new hardware for me and that's quite RARE ...sometimes shut down for a few minutes to blow out any dust that's been gathering In the vents in the fans or vents

the rest of the time its just push the power on the monitor to turn that off as that's not essential when I sleep lol

There is a site dedicated to collecting uptime (Total time a PC has been running without a Reboot) from people's PCs/servers etc... It is called the uptime project (top result from Google search). The longest uptime at the moment is recorded at 11 years
