Hacking How does the Sky3ds handle game updates?

Hello.
I've been looking into the Sky3ds, but there is some info I can't find.
How does it handle game updates? Do I have to download them via the eShop, or do the .3DS roms (only format the Sky3ds can use as far as I know) come pre-patched as it were?
Also, how does it handle DLC?
At the time of writing, my 3ds is on the latest firmware, but I also have ironhax installed.

Seems I'll have to download whatever game updates I want before Nintendo puts out a 3ds update, which will probably patch ironhax.
